The MPRC consultants are a group of trained prevention professionals who assist MPRC staff in the provision of training and technical assistance. MPRC contracts with the individuals listed below to be our "eyes and ears in the field." We assign tasks to them according to their specific areas of expertise and the ATOD prevention needs of the region in which they live. Thanks to our consultants, MPRC is even better equipped to help communities move evidence-based prevention into practice.
MPRC Consultant (Supports NW Region 1 & WC Region 3)
Maxine Norman is currently employed as an Extension Educator with the University of Minnesota, Community Vitality Center-Leadership & Civic Engagement. Maxine has a Master's degree in Education earned at North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND.
MPRC Consultant (NE Region 2)
Paula has been a registered nurse for over 25 years and has worked in a variety of settings such as: college health nurse, home health care and qualified rehabilitation consultant. She has been a PHN for the past 10 years working as a health educator/tobacco prevention specialist with Itasca County.
MPRC Consultant (EC Region 4)
Judy currently lives in St. Michael with her husband and daughter. She works as the Chemical Health Coordinator for the Wayzata Public Schools district and teaches the Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Training as a college course at Metropolitan State University. She has an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of St. Thomas.
MPRC Consultant (SW Region 5)
Jean is originally from Austin, Minnesota and currently resides in Hutchinson, with her husband Kevin. Jean earned the following degrees, license and certificates: Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology from the University of Minnesota, Certificate in Instructional Design (St. Cloud State), Adult Education Vocational License (State of Minnesota and U of M) and a Master of Education (U of M).

Maryanne Law was born in St. Paul and grew up in south Minneapolis. She now lives in Austin, Minnesota. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and English at Macalester College, a Master of Management from St. Mary's University and is a Minnesota Certified Prevention Professional
MPRC Consultant (Metro Region 7)
Kirsten has contributed to books about school programming for drug/alcohol issues, and has written countless articles for parents as part of her work at Cretin–Derham Hall. She received her BA in English from Gustavus, her Chemical Dependency Counseling education at the U. of M. and her MA at St. Mary’s.

Deb holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Texas and a Master of Science in Experiential Education from Mankato State University. She is a licensed drug counselor and teaches at Metropolitan State University in the Human Services Department, Alcohol and Drug Counseling major. She also teaches adjunct at the U of M and MCTC.

Jolene is a health educator and wellness enthusiast. She returned to college in 2007 attaining a self-designed degree in Adult Health Education from the University of Minnesota. Jolene is passionate about developing and coordinating engaging programs that help people attain the quality of life they desire.

Andres has nine years of experience working for a non-profit in the Twin Cites, providing chemical health predominately for the Latino community. He participated in the development of many tobacco control efforts which required community involvement statewide.

Shoua, originally from Laos, now lives in Inver Grove Heights with her husband and five children (four boys and one girl). Shoua received an individual alcohol and drug counseling certificate and training from Hazelden. She speaks and understands Hmong and English.

Thomas holds Bachelor's degree from St. Mary's University of Minnesota in Public Administration. He has been a leader and advocate in his community since 2000. He is the first full time "Tobacco Educator" ever in the history of Hmong in the United States of America and he is a Certified Prevention Professional (CPP).
Dzuy Ho
MPRC Consultant (Metro Region 7)
Dzuy has lived in Minnesota since 1994. He was born and raised in Vietnam and currently resides in Brooklyn Park with his wife and daughter. Dzuy holds a Bachelor's degree in Individualized Studies from the U of M where his studies focused on economics, sociology and business management. Dung speaks Vietnamese and English. He enjoys playing and watching sports, traveling and spending time with his family. His definition of a good day is when his clients are happy and have smiles on their faces.

Mohamed earned a Master of Science degree from Mananga Agricultural Institute in Swaziland. He speaks Somali, Amharic, Harari, Italian and basic French in addition to English. When he's not serving as an MPRC consultant, Mohamed is employed by Hennepin County as a Senior Community Health Worker.

Roger was a senior staff member at the Minnesota Institute of Public Health where he was the Coordinator of Program Development and Training. In this capacity Roger has served as Prevention Specialist for a variety of projects. Roger retired from the Minnesota Institute of Public Health in 2007.

Derrick is currently the manager of Telesis, a chemical health program for the Hennepin County Adult Correctional Facility in Minnesota (for both men and women facilities).

Dr. Steve Zvonar is a certified health coach and a Doctor of Chiropractic with a particular focus on the discipline of Functional Medicine. Dr. Zvonar is an experienced speaker and trainer on such topics as natural health and nutrition, health and life coaching, the keys to change, and thriving through stress. He is an annual speaker at the MARRCH (Minnesota Association of Resources for Recovery and Chemical Health) conference and a regular guest lecturer at Metro State University.

Todd Mulliken, MS, LPCC is owner of Mulliken counseling center in Edina, MN. He has over 20 years of clinical experience counseling individuals, couples and families struggling with depression, anxiety, personality issues, relational issues, and adjustment problems.
