As if immigrating to America is not difficult and challenging enough, imagine a new immigrant's first encounter with our drinking and drugging society. This unique DVD examines the compelling stories of several new immigrants as they learn about and negotiate issues related to substance abuse in our culture, some successfully, others not.

Presented by representatives of three cultures: Somali, Latino and Hmong--in their respective languages. Community members will gain keen insights into protective and risk factors to prevent substance abuse--from a cultural perspective!

What To Say: A Lesson (For School Staff)
The host creates a “lesson” for school staff with three dramatizations: a maintenance worker, teacher and coach using the six-step process to talk with and listen to students whose behavior concerns them. This is a real learning opportunity for school staff. (11:09)

What Would You Do? (For Youth)
Here’s the deal. Your friend is using and you need to say something without turning into a complete dork. The teenage hosts take other teens through the steps of talking seriously to a friend about drug use—without pushing them away or turning them off. (10:22)

Calm Down and Follow the Moves (For Parents)
The hosts show parents the difference between confronting children in anger and using the six-step process to really help kids stay away from drugs. (13:04)
