Future directions for Star
What does the Minnesota Star of the North Prevention Coalition want to be after it "graduates" from its federal funding? That is the question facing the Coalition's leadership groups. During last summer's retreat, four priorities along with other key issues were identified to guide the Coalition's future journey.
Priorities
Maintain, support and expand a statewide network of community-based and statewide coalitions
Support the use of effective prevention principles and practices. This involves promoting program evaluation efforts.
Contribute to the development of a coordinated and effective statewide prevention plan.
Maximize Star's involvement in the planning and implementation of the State Incentive Grant.
Other key issues
Continue to be intentional in our efforts to be culturally inclusive with all of our efforts.
Continue to focus on environmental approaches to prevention, including attention to public policy.
Continue to monitor and promote electronic technology that will increase the use and effectiveness of electronic communication for the Coalition and its members.
There seems to be a strong need and desire to build on the network of coalitions that has been operating through Minnesota Star of the North. Keeping connected and working with and learning from one another will be the cornerstone of what emerges as the new Minnesota Star of the North Prevention Coalition.
