"Amid budget cutbacks, one south metro school district is adding something new this fall - a licensed mental health counselor at each of its schools.
Many schools have enlisted such professionals in recent years thanks to grants in a 2007 mental health reform package then-Gov. Tim Pawlenty championed. Schools and providers sprang to the grants' rescue this spring and thwarted a legislative push to scrap them.
But in committing to place a mental health professional at each of its seven schools, the 9,800-student Burnsville-Eagan-Savage district is going further than most."
