Through the Eyes of the Child

Noted pediatrician and author T. Berry Brazelton will speak at a symposium for parents and professionals. He will address parents November 4 at 7 p.m. in Northrop Auditorium. On November 5, Brazelton will join other child development specialists for an all-day workshop for parents and professionals at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Minneapolis. Governor’s Task Force on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Community Hearings
The Governor’s Task Force on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is co-chaired by First Lady Susan Carlson and District Court Judge Joan Lancaster. The 44 member task force, staffed by the Minnesota Department of Health, are holding hearings across Minnesota to invite public testimony and commentary from concerned citizens. Some hearings have already taken place, others are still scheduled as follows:

Workplace Violence Prevention Workshops
The Health Care Coalition on Violence is a statewide broad-based organization committed to implementing violence prevention initiatives in the health care community. Administration, medical directors, and human resource management in hospitals, nursing homes, and clinics are encouraged to attend in groups of three or more. The registration for this day long event is $35 for the first person from an organization and $25 for additional persons. Taking Control is a peer education program that addresses the issues of drinking or drug use and driving or riding. The goal of the program is to educate young people about the dangerous relationship between these activities. The program is based on the premise that young people value being in control and that specific skills for dealing with these high-risk situations are necessary. There will be teams of three students and one adult accepted from each school.
