Resurgence in Ecstasy Use on the Horizon?

Several indicators suggest that there may be a resurgence in ecstasy use in the coming years. There were an estimated 1.1 million new ecstasy users in 2009, according to data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). This is an increase of 83% from the most recent low incidence rate of 607,000 in 2004.

Emergency department visits related to “Ecstasy” use increased nearly 75 percent from 2004 to 2008

A new national study indicates that the number of hospital emergency visits involving the illicit drug Ecstasy increased from 10,220 in 2004 to 17,865 visits in 2008 – a 74.8 percent increase.
