Possible effects of meth use1
Short-term effects
- increased wakefulness and physical activity
- euphoria
- decreased appetite
- a brief intense sensation (when smoked or injected)
- a several-hour high (when ingested orally or snorted)
- increased respiration
- hyperthermia (elevated body temperature)
Long-term effects
- addiction
- violent behavior
- anxiety
- confusion
- insomnia
- paranoia
- auditory hallucinations
- mood disturbances
- delusions
Chronic users who stop taking the drug may experience depression, anxiety, fatigue, paranoia, aggression, and an intense craving for meth.
